DI Frost finds himself tackling the murder of Adie Carr, a local Denton F.C. who collapsed during a press conference shortly after the conclusion of a football match. Frost learns that Carr died from a fatal overdose of steroids induced by an unknown method, prompting him to question the victim's movements prior to his death. He soon learns that Carr was disliked by a number of suspects - a rival footballer who assaulted him in the match; a woman whose grandfather was conned out of money for DIY work; and a coach who resented him rejecting a transfer offer he had arranged. At the same time, Frost investigates the body of an unknown man who was found to be in possession of a stolen driving licence, but finds this investigation to be far from easy to solve.
