| Good morning, We are happy to report that the broken chilled water pipe referenced in our Jan. 26 email has been repaired. Water monitoring of the ponds on the NIST and Izaak Walton League properties shows the leak has had no measurable environmental impact. As noted in our previous email, chilled water does contain a preservative commonly used in cured foods such as bacon and hot dogs, called sodium nitrite, as well as a nonhazardous blue dye to help identify leaks. Neither is currently detectable in either pond. Our staff members continuously monitor our chilled water system and property for unexpected releases of water. NIST takes its environmental responsibilities seriously and has a strong record of environmental compliance. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions or concerns: NISTG_CommunityAffairs@nist.gov. |
