By Ethan Laffy, Member Proposition Support Officer
I'm a Member Proposition Support Officer in the Co-op Membership team. I've been at Co-op for seven years and part of membership for the past year and a half.
Membership is at the heart of our vision and what makes our business so unique, so when I saw a chance to get closer to that I jumped at the chance!
Day-to-day, my team is responsible for defining and delivering on the promise we make to our members, so they have a great experience of Co-op every time they use their membership.
There are so many benefits to being a member. You get weekly digital offers for money off the things you buy and can access exclusive discounts and deals across our family of businesses.
When you pay £1 to join, you're buying a share of our business, which means you also have the chance to help us develop new products – such as chocolate bars and crisps, or even insurance policies – shape our strategies or policies and make your voice heard at our annual general meeting.
One of the most special bits about membership is how it makes our community work possible. As well as earning 2p for yourself for every pound spent on Co-op branded products, members also raise a further 2p that helps fund all the work we do through our Local Community Fund and Community Partnerships Fund, Member Pioneers and our community platform, Co-operate.*
Seeing the difference our members are helping us make in communities by simply shopping with us makes me really proud to work for Co-op. Imagine what more we could do if we had even more members!
Ethan's top tip to Co-operate for a Fairer World:
I'd encourage all colleagues reading this to get their friends and family to join us. Not only will they get some great benefits for themselves, they'll also be making a difference to people's lives just by popping in for that pint of milk.
*When Co-op members buy selected Co-op branded products and services, we give 2p for every pound spent to local communities. This is split between the Local Community Fund and the Community Partnerships Fund.
The Community Partnerships Fund supports the needs of communities and groups who need it most by partnering with likeminded organisations to make a difference. The Community Partnership Fund also supports some of the Co-op's community initiatives such as Member Pioneers, the Co-operate platform and Co-op Academies.
Funding is distributed through a quarterly panel made up of representatives from Co-op's Members Council, Young Members Group, and Co-op Leaders.
