Millions of people across the nation and the Commonwealth are preparing to celebrate the Coronation of His Majesty The King and Her Majesty The Queen Consort over a special Bank Holiday Coronation weekend, 6-8 May.
Our Member Pioneers work with Co-op colleagues and local causes to make a difference in their communities. We asked four Member Pioneers how they're bringing their communities together to celebrate the Coronation…
Kathy, Member Pioneer for Brechin, said:
"I'm supporting the Big Coronation Lunch being held in St Ninians Square on Sunday 7 May.
To plan for the event, I've connected with over 20 local groups including many of our Local Community Fund causes past and present. It's going to be a wonderful magical day with our community coming together to share food, fun and friendship."
Dawn, Member Pioneer for Barnsley and Rotherham, said:
"B:Friend, one of my local causes is holding a Coronation Party, which will be a chance for the older and isolated members of the community to get together in a safe and welcoming space to celebrate this historic occasion with their community. They're aiming to bring together around 150 of our older neighbours to enjoy music, buffet, games a raffle and a quiz!
Co-op is supporting this by providing tea, coffee and treats, a raffle prize and contributions to the quiz and games ideas. We'll also be helping to spread the word in our local network to volunteers and businesses that may want to help out."
Lesley, Member Pioneer for Brandon and Ushaw Moor, said:
"I've organised an event on Saturday 6 May at St John's Hall Meadowfield, with entertainers, stilt walkers, bubbles, crafts, glitter face painting, food, a singer, police van and donkeys. I've invited our local causes too.
Then on Sunday 7 May I'm supporting the Big Lunch at two local venues and donating some biscuits and drinks."
Clare, Member Pioneer for Corsham, said:
"Corsham's Co-op is joining with Wiltshire Council and Corsham Town Council to host Corsham's Big Coronation Tea Party for over 100 older residents in the community. The Celebration will be held at The Springfield Campus on Friday 5 May.
Co-op will be providing the bread for sandwiches and we're just making final decisions about which exciting selection of Co-op cakes to choose!"
