This year marks the 147th anniversary of the most famous battle of the Indian Wars. For the US, a shocking and humiliating defeat. For the Lakota and allies, a great, if only short lived, victory.
The Lakota are still here, despite determined efforts to wipe them out. And they are still fighting hard to defend and reclaim their homeland.
There is now a new holiday on June 25, Pine Ridge Greasy Grass Victory Day is a 'A proud day to be Lakota' [1]. This first celebration featured a parade and games, to honor the memory of the victory and the fighters who were there.
Best wishes to all of my Lakota friends! Fight on!
