Each morning, as part of my daily routine, I solve at least one chess problem.
This forces me, before I open up my computer to begin work, before I begin communication with clients or taking meetings, to get my brain to focus.
Often times the problem itself is not difficult, but because my mind is distracted in thinking about one or more other things, I can't even see the problem clearly, at first.
Typically, in the worst of cases, after a minute or two of sitting still and forcing myself to focus, I can.
Afterwards I always feel much more ready to progress to the next task or project on my work list.
