Good morning…today is my favorite day of the year!
I've been lucky enough to have my blog day be on Halloween before…but I'm doing something a little different this time. With all the real murder in our lives, I thought it would be entertaining to have some stylish violence for a change.
So, below I've arranged some of my favorite murder scenes from fantastic films. They are elegant and visually stunning, as you will see with the clip from Suspiria 1977. Some are psychedelic, like the piano eating scene from House…also from 1977.
I guess I should say that some are gory and gorgeous…some may be over the top, but none of the clips are from movies newer than 1982. So that should tell you where I stand when it comes to classic horror films. I like them campy and culty and old and dramatic.
Now, be sure you click on the Twitter /X links and watch the clips on TCM. The quality of the video is first rate and you may even find more information about the films.
Let's start with my absolute favorite witch movie…I could put so many clips from this film on the post. However, I will stick with the first murders that occur about 4 minutes into the start of the show. It's ballet and witchcraft and it is fanfuckintastic! Suspiria:

I could not find a clip of this scene without the commentary…but it shows just how brilliant the movie is, The Black Cat:
If I have Bela murdering Boris…I have to have a clip of Boris icing Bela. Again, you will need to click on the link to watch the clip…but it is wonderful. The Body Snatcher:

From Alien…the murder of Brett…with best acting by a cat!
Ah…for camp in film, none did better than William Castle…here is a magnificent example of murder by fright: The Tingler
If we have a clip from a Castle film we need to include my favorite…John Waters creation Lady Divine in Multiple Maniacs 1970…which is nothing more than Godzilla in drag, here is the last scene where they kill the beast that is Divine:
What's a bunch of clips without some Blood Feast…now this is just the trailer but it is choice:
We have had aliens and apes as murderers…but what about roaches? Aha…Talk to me! Creepshow:
I will end this thread with the man who made horror movies fun and frightening all at once. The man, the genius of Vincent Price…here in the last scene from The Pit and The Pendulum:
Innit glorious?
They don't make em like they used to…I think I touched on almost every kind of classic horror movie. I know I missed Brian DePalma, John Carpenter and Alfred Hitchcock….but oh well, here is a clip from a silent Hitchcock film:
Big Ben looming, police deploying, and landlady Mrs. Bunting (Marie Ault) beginnng to wonder whether her queer tenant (Ivor Novello) could be the murderer all London is hunting, the second killing now underway, in Alfred Hitchcock's The Lodger, 1926. https://t.co/OlrRKzJrob
