The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) is sending refunds to victims of a bait and switch scam perpetrated by LasikPlus and Joffe Medicenter, both of which are owned by LCA-Vision, the largest LASIK surgery chain in the country. In January of 2023, the FTC sued LasikPlus for luring people to their facilities through advertising which led consumers to believe their vision could be corrected by LASIK surgery at a cost of less than $300 when the truth is that less than 7% of consumers were eligible for the advertised price. In order to be eligible for the $300 price, consumers had to already have near-normal vision. The vast majority of consumers who came to their facilities were quoted prices ranging between $1,800 and $2,295 per eye. The FTC recently settled its case against LCA-Vision and is refunding money to victims of the scam.
