AQABA, Jordan – The commander of Combined Task Force (CTF) 153 visited the Royal Jordanian Navy Command in Aqaba, Jordan, April to May .
Italian Navy Capt. Roberto Messina, who assumed command of CTF 153 in April, met Col. Hisham Khaleel Aljarrah, commander of the Royal Jordanian Navy Force, to discuss international maritime security issues, provide an update on current maritime challenges in CTF 153's area of operations, and the importance of the Aqaba port.
Messina also toured the RJNF's naval operations center, which uses the latest sensor technology to track all movements occurring in Jordanian territorial waters. Additionally, Messina visited the robotics center, which specializes in the development and use of unmanned aerial vehicles and unmanned surface vessels. These vessels are responsible for conducting underwater defense operations.
The visit recognized the long-standing relationship between Combined Maritime Forces and the Royal Jordanian Navy Force, and acknowledged the Jordanians' contributions since 2008.
CTF 153 focuses on international maritime security and capacity-building efforts in the Red Sea, Bab al-Mandeb and Gulf of Aden.
