Cat bond fund returns could reach low double-digits in 2025 Catastrophe bond funds have the potential to deliver low double-digit returns again in 2025, while market growth and expansion is helping fund managers achieve greater diversity as well, Dirk Schmelzer of Plenum Investments explained. With cat bond market activity having accelerated again in Q4, the pipeline is still unlikely to make it a record quarter, although it will now be a record for full-year 2024 issuance. Remember, you can now track the pipeline alongside settled issuance in this chart. As we reported recently, UCITS cat bond funds have already averaged a 12.57% return by the end of November. While the cat bond market yield remains elevated by historical standards. 2025 could be another strong year, as there are new funds, new entrants on both sponsor and investor side, as well as other initiatives in the works that could bring new functionality to the cat bond community. Next year looks set to be very interesting in catastrophe bonds, but we mustn't forget the heavy maturity schedule that we see ahead.
