Most people think they need to go to the gym to get in shape, but that’s not true at all. You just need to move your body well and often. The other day, on the sidelines of my son’s soccer tournament, I did the following movements: Squats (standard & single-leg), push-ups (standard, incline, yoga, ball cross-over, & on ball), lunges (forward, lateral, & backward), jumps (squat, box, & frog), skipping (forward, backward, & for power), hopping on one foot, frog stand, tripod headstand, handstand, soccer drills (dribbling, passing, & shooting), jogging, sprinting, pigeon, various yoga poses (pigeon, up & down dog, etc.), pull-ups, somersaults (forward & backward), crab walk, & bear crawl. In the 5 hours we were there, the most I saw any other parent moving their body was a brief walk. But what a golden opportunity missed! Even if you sit at a desk all day, you can ‘sneak’ movement in consistently. You don’t need to go to the gym. You just need to move more.
