We can fool ourselves pretty easily. For instance, the other day I had a few drinks at a party. I said to myself that doing so was ‘for the right reasons’ (to celebrate), as opposed to ‘the wrong reasons’ (like when I was younger and used to drink way too much. And while that was true, it wasn’t the whole truth. I didn’t need alcohol to celebrate. So a small part of ‘the old me’ was driving that decision, if I am being honest. Maybe even a not-so-small-part. Awareness is the first step towards overcoming these old habits and rationalizations, so I’ll take the whole experience as a win, including writing this post a few days later. Don’t let the old you drive your car. PS: Alcohol, as it pertains to your health, is a fairly in-depth topic. I’ve written almost 100 posts about it over the years.
