“Our self-worth as parents depends on this!” On the sidelines of my son’s soccer match the other day, I made that joke with a smile on my face to a few of the other parents. It was an important match - a tournament final. We were all tense. Sometimes we put a bit too much pressure on the outcome of things. Including myself; I wanted the win badly. I’ve always told that joke in a light-hearted way. But it turns out that it’s not a joke. It is 100% true. Our value as parents does depend on the outcome of these things.
