End of week Artemis update - March 20th 2026 | | | End of week Artemis update | Here's our latest Friday wrap-up of key news from the week. This week we reported that Pool Re is back in the catastrophe bond market with a new Baltic terrorism deal. Also joining the pipeline, Zenkyoren returned for another Nakama Re quake cat bond and first time sponsor One Alliance North America is offering its first One Shield Re cat bond deal. We also reported that a new State Farm entity using the Merna Re name has been established in Bermuda recently, suggesting new cat bonds may be on the way for the insurer. In addition, Heritage secured its $250m Citrus Re cat bond to extend its capital markets backed reinsurance. While Tokio Marine finalised its $100m Kizuna Re cat bond deal. Our latest data on first-quarter cat bond issuance shows February set a new record for the month and March also seems likely to reach a new high.  In other stories this week, we reported on Hannover Re's growing activities in reinsurance securitization, collateralized fronting and ILS facilitation. A proposal called for a US government backed natural catastrophe reinsurer to be formed, to hold cat risk at the lowest cost. Lloyd's aims to make it even more flexible for capital to enter the market and invest in re/insurance opportunities. Neuberger Berman said industry index catastrophe bonds have outperformed the broader cat bond market with respect to realised losses and mark-to-market performance. Accelerant Holdings achieved a further upsizing and extension of its Flywheel Re collateralized reinsurance sidecar in March 2026. Man Group challenged the accuracy of seasonal hurricane forecasts, saying cat bond portfolio construction is more important. Howden Re said rising catastrophe loads and a softening market could shift reinsurance strategies.
