- Chubb buying more reinsurance as it “makes sense to feed the hungry”, says CEO Greenberg
Chubb has been buying more reinsurance this year as it sees an opportunity to “feed the hungry” in the competitive and softened market environment, CEO Evan Greenberg said today. He also made some interesting commentary on softening expanding into casualty lines and rate failing to keep up with loss costs, in his view.

After a magnitude 7.3 earthquake struck just off the southern coast of Mexico recently, analysis suggests this event was a near-miss for attaching the parametric trigger of one tranche of notes from the country’s World Bank facilitated IBRD CAR Mexico 2024 catastrophe bond transaction.
- Hannover Re vehicle Kaith Re issues $14.94m Seaside Re private cat bond
Hannover Re’s Bermuda-domiciled transformer vehicle Kaith Re Ltd. has issued another private catastrophe bond under its Seaside Re program, with a $14.94 million Seaside Re (Series 2026-61) deal that we expect will be exposed to US property catastrophe risks and provide reinsurance or retrocession for an unknown sponsor.

Insurance-linked securities and reinsurance sidecar investments made by Eaton Vance through three of its mutual funds have risen significantly in the last half-year, increasing by more than 126% to reach almost $680 million by April 30th, with brand new allocations made to structures linked to Arch Capital, PartnerRe and QBE, as well as to one unknown entity.

Bill Ackman linked investment holding company Pershing Square Holdings has appointed current Twelve Securis board executive Ranjani Kearsley, who works at investment firm B-FLEXION, as an independent non-executive director, a move that brings additional insurance-linked securities (ILS) experience to the Vantage Group linked firm.

The catastrophe bond market continued its strong momentum in 2026 driving another record period of issuance in the first-half of the year and analysis from global reinsurance firm Swiss Re’s Capital Markets division shows that since 2021 the outstanding cat bond market has been expanding at a roughly 15.5% compound annual growth rate.

RenaissanceRe’s property catastrophe reinsurance portfolio remains rate adequate at today’s pricing, CEO Kevin O’Donnell said today, laying out the shift in tactics the reinsurer employed in response to market conditions at the mid-year renewals.

The Canadian financial markets regulator, the Office of the Superintendent of Financial Institutions (OSFI), has now added natural catastrophe bonds to its rules on allowable forms of reinsurance that can reduce capital requirements for insurance risk.
