Former Chief of Defence Staff, General Lucky Irabor, says providing security for a diverse country like Nigeria is not an easy task, but insists it is not an impossible one to achieve.
Irabor said this in his valedictory speech during the pulling-out ceremony organised for him at the Mogadishu Cantonment in Abuja.
According to Irabor, the debts the country owes to men and women who serve in the armed forces cannot be paid fully.
He expressed satisfaction with his service in the military, saying that he is leaving the armed forces today bigger and stronger than he met it.
The former defence chief also appealed to citizens not to engage in acts that can undermine the Nigerian military, saying that the military stands as a beacon of hope, unity and stability that must be protected.
He expressed optimism in the ability of his successor to beat the records set so far in the armed forces.
In attendance at the event are senior military officers, former Chiefs of Defense Staff, the former Secretary to the Government of the Federation, Boss Mustapha, and the governor of Delta State, Sheriff Oborevwori.
Irabor was appointed as the Chief of Defence Staff by former President, Muhammadu Buhari, in 2021, replacing General Abayomi Olonisakin.
However, his tenure as the defence chief came to an end nineteenth June when President Tinubu replaced all the incumbent service chiefs and replaced them with new ones.
The President replaced General Irabor with Major-General C.G Musa, who is now the Acting Chief of Defence Staff pending his confirmation by the Senate.
Other Service Chiefs appointed alongside Gen. Musa are Maj. Gen T. A Lagbaja as the Chief of Army Staff, Rear Admiral E. A Ogalla as the Chief of Naval Staff, AVM H.B Abubakar as the Chief of Air Staff.
Also appointed are DIG Kayode Egbetokun as the Acting Inspector-General of Police and Maj. Gen. EPA Undiandeye as the Chief of Defense Intelligence.
The President also appointed former Chairman of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission, EFCC, Nuhu Ribadu, as his new National Security Adviser (NSA). Ribadu replaces Babagana Monguno as the nation's NSA.
Tinubu also approved the appointment of Adeniyi Adewale as the Acting Comptroller General of Customs.
He takes over from Hameed Ali.
The pulling out parade is part of military tradition honouring retiring Generals which was well attended by the new Chief of Defence Staff, Major General CG Musa, Chief of Army Staff, Major Gen TA Lagbaja, Chief of Naval Staff, Rear Admiral Ikechukwu Ogalla and Chief of Air Staff, Air Vice Marshal Abubakar
Governor Sheriff Oborewori of Delta State, Mr. Boss Mustapha, former SGF and Past Chiefs of Defence, Army, Navy, Air Staff, including Admiral Ibrahim Ogohi (rtd), Gen Alexander Ogomudia, Gen Martins Agwai, Admiral Ola Sa'ad Ibrahim and Gen Olonisakin (rtd) and Irabor's 34 Regular Course mates attended the ceremony.
The event which involved a march past by the officers of the Nigerian Army, Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Air force was graced by members of DEPOWA, NAOWA, NOWA, and families and friends of the Irabors from Delta State.
General Lucky Irabor was born on October 5, 1965. He is from Ika South of Delta State and he is a member of regular course 34 of the Nigerian Defence Academy.
On the 26th January 2021 he was appointed the Chief of Defence Staff by President Buhari Muhammadu Buhari.
General Lucky Irabor was the Chief of Defence, Training and Operations (CDTOP) at the Defence Headquarters before his sppointment as CDS.
He is an Alumnus of the Ghana Armed Forces Staff College Ghana, the National Defence College Bangladesh and Harvard Kennedy School of Government Executive Programme, USA.
He is a trained Engineer from Obafemi Awolowo University and holds Masters Degrees from the University of Ghana, Accra, and Bangladesh University of Professionals, Dhaka.
As the CDTOPs, he oversaw training and operations in the Armed Forces of Nigeria under the direction of the Chief of Defence Staff.
At several times he served as the Theatre Commander of Operation Lafiya Dole, North-East Nigeria as well as Force Commander Multinational Joint Task Force in the Lake Chad Basin Area.
