We recently visited for the first time, "Amazing Grace Country" in County Donegal, in that beautiful area where John Newton's wrecked ship came ashore and he found peace with God in 1748. John Newton, author of "Amazing Grace" and many other hymns (including "Glorious things of thee are spoken") has been quoted as saying that he believed that he had committed every sin known to man. When I look at the "before" and "after" life of this man, I find it most encouraging to know that there is no limit to what the Lord can do with a life which has been given to Him. As I stood in the twilight on that beach where John Newton's ship came ashore hundreds of years ago, I felt emotional. With each wave that swept towards me, I experienced hope well within me for souls I have been praying for, for years. If the Lord can save a "wretch" who claimed to have committed every sin known to man, what can He not do in the lives of the souls we know? We must continue to pray without ceasing for loved ones and acquaintances.
As for those who love the Lord, even when we are going through difficult times, we can rejoice and praise Him for the truth of these words of the fourth verse of "Amazing Grace"…
"When we've been there ten thousand years,
Bright shining as the sun,
We've no less days to song God's praise,
Than when we first begun."
