Here's our latest Friday wrap-up of key news from the week. A quieter week with the holidays, but we revealed a new catastrophe bond being issued out of Hong Kong, the Silk Road Re deal for reinsurer Taiping Re. As more details emerged, we reported that the Silk Road Re cat bond will provide Taiping Re three years of retro, covering China quake and US named storm risks using both parametric and industry-loss triggers. Elsewhere in the cat bond market, QBE priced its new $250m Bridge Street Re cat bond at the low-end of reduced guidance. We also reported this week that Galapagos Capital, a Brazil headquartered investment and capital markets firm, has been pre-authorised for an SSPE in the country to issue locally regulated ILS. In other news this week, Stonybrook Capital said the insurance-linked securities (ILS) market should become more streamlined and professionalised if mergers and acquisitions (M&A) consolidate players. KBW's analyst team said the returns generated from catastrophe reinsurance risk underwriting and capital allocation can remain strong, just so long as the industry remains disciplined on attachments, terms and conditions. According to new survey data collected by the Bermuda Monetary Authority (BMA), Bermuda-based insurance and reinsurance companies made increased use of industry-loss warranties (ILW's), quota share arrangements and retrocession in 2023. Acrisure appointed Martin Reith in a role to review and provide advice on Acrisure's interest in helping clients access third-party capital.
