Many times I’ll be in a meeting, remote or local, when the other person is running late. They’ll cordially apologize. Here’s my response: “Thank you. I appreciate, truly, the extra time. You’ve given me 5 minutes of extra space. Of time to think, to organize, to be still and silent. Time to do … nothing.” I don’t use those exact words each time, but, you get the point. Far too often we jump from one thing to the next with zero buffer or space. Let me just tell you - that is NOT good, efficient, or productive at all.
