FEMA halts work on new FloodSmart cat bond | | | FEMA said to have halted work on FloodSmart Re 2025-1 catastrophe bond According to sources, the U.S. Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has halted preparatory work for a planned FloodSmart Re Ltd. Series 2025-1 catastrophe bond issuance, which we're told is as a consequence of the oversight and focus on government agencies instigated by the new U.S. Administration. FEMA has sponsored a FloodSmart Re catastrophe bond every year since 2020 to provide reinsurance from the capital markets for its National Flood Insurance Program (NFIP). But we're told work that had begun on a Series 2025-1 issuance has now been halted, as a result of the additional oversight and cuts to US government agency spend that has been seen of late, with spend on reinsurance potentially coming in for some scrutiny.
