The biggest failure I ever had was simple: I failed to ask for help when I needed it. I was young and stupid. I had convinced myself, as many young men do, that I couldn’t raise my hand and say ‘hey, I need some help here’. Instead I continued on getting more and more unhealthy, until eventually it was so obvious that I needed help that my family intervened. I learned that while we’re in the middle of a problem, sometimes we cannot see that problem clearly. We have blind spots. So we need family, friends, maybe coaches, or other professionals, to point this out, and to help us course correct. I’m still not immune to blind spots today, and I do my best to remember that.
