The insurance-linked securities (ILS) market is in a strong position with record levels of catastrophe bond issuance and growing interest in private ILS and casualty risks, while transparency and price efficiency remain key to attracting investors old and new, according to industry experts.

Berkshire Hathaway reduced its underwriting of property reinsurance in the first-quarter of the year and its CEO Greg Abel said during the firm’s annual meeting on Saturday that competition and capital is flowing into the industry, leading the company to be more cautious as it looks to sustain adequate underwriting returns on risks assumed.

The insurance-linked securities (ILS) and reinsurance investments portfolio managed by specialist pension investor PGGM on behalf of Dutch pension PFZW delivered a 12.4% return in USD for full-year 2025, while the portfolio assets ended the year at a valuation of just over US $8.9 billion.

The amount of non-life alternative reinsurance capital from catastrophe bonds and insurance-linked securities (ILS) grew by a “historic” amount in 2025, with the latest data from Gallagher Re indicating significant inflows and non-life ILS capital rose $21 billion to $135 billion in the year.

SCOR is back in the catastrophe bond market initially targeting $75 million of multi-peril fully-collateralized retrocession through sponsorship of an Atlas Capital DAC (Series 2026-1) issuance.
