With record levels of capital in the reinsurance sector and a growing insurance-linked securities market with a broadening investor base, executives at Aon said today that there are more savings to come for clients, with property rates likely to fall in the region of 10% at the January 1 2027 renewal.

With the global economy having entered a capex super-cycle, there is a notable increase in investments being directed towards AI data centres. According to reinsurer Swiss Re, this could be a US$200 billion premium opportunity by 2030, within which alternative reinsurance capital, including catastrophe bonds and sidecars is expected to play a key role.

Recognising the burgeoning interest in underwriting exposures related to the data center build-out, global data analytics and technology provider Verisk has announced the launch of a dedicated exposure database for these large risks in the United States.

A wave of severe convective storms that swept across Germany, France, Switzerland, and Italy in Europe between 13th and 19th July 2026 are estimated to have caused an insurance industry loss of EUR 2.186 billion, according to catastrophe data aggregator PERILS AG.
