This week we reported that giant pension investor CalPERS grew its allocations to ILS to a near $2.5bn valuation by the middle of this year. The Florida State Board continues to target diversification within its ILS investments, with a Lloyd's focused fund in its pipeline. Gallagher Securities CEO told us in an interview that the firm is working to bring a cat bond to market featuring a new peril. MembersCap recently launched its first cat bond fund and told us it was the sole investor behind an innovative cyber / property ILW. The first criminal charges in the Vesttoo fraud debacle have now been confirmed, as a CCB manager has admitted receiving bribes to falsify LOC documents. In other stories this week, Arch Re has promoted Christian Roberts as its new Head of ILS and hired Cyril Neyme as an ILS Portfolio Manager. A Moody's survey found 28% of respondents said they intend to use more alternative or ILS capital next year. Agecroft Partners said carefully constructed ILS portfolios and disciplined underwriting can help manage downside volatility. Shiv Kumar, CEO of Marsh Securities told us ILS investors must broaden their mandates or risk losing relevance with cedents in a softening reinsurance market. Aon said that investors can access underwriting returns directly through platforms like Bermuda and Lloyd’s, bypassing the need for traditional rated balance sheets. Moody’s launched Risk InvestorIQ to support ILS transaction and portfolio evaluation.
