But it’s the ones that I either repeat or perpetuate that really hurt. A poor choice is a sunk cost. You don’t have to pay for it twice. Common examples in health & fitness are:
In each case it’s the SECOND choice that does even more ‘damage’ than the first. But the reality is that the second choice is completely independent of the first - IF you can take a step back and see the situation without bias. Just because you had a crappy night of eating & drinking does not mean you have to continue it for the rest of the weekend. Just because you were off plan doesn’t mean that you have to feel embarrassed about it. Just because you have been lazy for months does not mean that you are lazy.
