I’ve coached more than a few clients who would try to force themselves to go to the bathroom multiple times in the same morning, even though they really didn’t have to go, before getting on their scale to send me their check-in for our weekly meeting. I don’t coach that kind of ‘diet’ at all anymore. Of course it wasn’t me personally who was directly putting that kind of pressure on the client to lose another 0.5 pounds … it was built into the expectations of the program. If anything I did my best to help alleviate that stress. However, in hindsight, by being a part of the program, I was at least complicit. If you’re on a diet or program that is as demanding as this, unless your bodyweight is tied directly to your professional career, something is wrong. You should be able to get on the scale without a tremendous amount of fear … … and you should never feel forced to go to the bathroom. Ever.
