The catastrophe bond market remains very active and with new issuances setting this week, 144A cat bond issuance in 2025 has now officially hit the $20bn milestone. Hannover Re is targeting $200m or more in multi-peril retrocession with a new 3264 Re catastrophe bond. Cincinnati Insurance Companies is seeking $150m or more in fully-collateralized reinsurance with a new Skyline Re II deal. Progressive is targeting $70m or more in one-yearl aggregate and multi-peril reinsurance through a new Bonanza Re issuance. Meanwhile, the North Carolina Farm Bureau secured the 54% upsized $500m of reinsurance limit from its new Blue Ridge Re cat bond. King Ridge Capital Advisors is planning to list its UCITS exchange traded catastrophe bond fund (ETF) on three major exchanges under the ticker symbol CATB. Schroders' GAIA UCITS cat bond fund strategy has surpassed US $4 billion in assets under management. In other stories this week, there was big news from Beazley as it announced a $500m investment to establish a Bermuda branch that will include a cyber ILS fund joint-venture. Schroders teamed up with Thai company Krungthai Asset Management to launch catastrophe bond fund strategies specifically for the Thai marketplace. Artex noted that alternative capital activity is surging as investor confidence grows. Pine Walk launched Carnovis Specialty as a new Alternative Risk Transfer MGA, that also has a remit to underwrite business for third-party capital providers. An ESMA policy officer has said that UCITS strategies containing more than 10% in indirect cat bond investments is blurring the lines with AIF. Broker Willis Re said that the expansion of use-cases for sidecars is attracting new sponsors and investors.
