Register soon to attend our Artemis London 2026 conference. This week we reported on the majo Japanese earthquake in Kumamoto prefecture. A number of ILS managers said they saw minimal loss potential from the quake, while Euler ILS Partners provisionally said it could be a $3bn to $4.5bn industry event. Twelve Securis later said it did not expect any material impact to cat bonds and its private ILS positions from the earthquake. Broker Aon said it expects the industry loss from the Japan quake will be below the $7.7bn from the 2016 events in Kumamoto. We also revealed another four new expert speakers for our upcoming Artemis London conference, which you should register for soon if you want to attend. In other stories this week, the Asian Development Bank is working with Mongolia on the potential to replicate the Risk-Layered Disaster Relief Finance Program it recently implemented for the Kyrgyz Republic and Tajikistan. The UCITS catastrophe bond fund sector surpassed $21bn of assets for first time. Swiss Re said secondary cat bond trading rebounded in the first-half of this year. Mt. Logan Capital Management expanded its assets under management meaningfully over recent months, reaching $3.4 billion. Nephila Capital’s insurance-linked securities (ILS) fund management revenues rose strongly by 23% in Q2. SCOR CEO Thierry Léger said that the quantity of ILS will only increase with the quality of the modelling, with reference to the wildfire peril. Aon also reported that SCS activity this week in the US has the potential to drive losses that would make it a top-10 severe weather outbreak in the country.
