This week both the cat bond market and the tropics sprang to life.
On Monday we revealed a new Great Wall Re cat bond issuance for PICC P&C, later finding out that it appears to be $12m in size.
Yesterday we reported on a newly marketing ResRe occurrence cat bond from prolific sponsor USAA.
Today we reported on a new offering under Acorn Re from Hannover Re, the latest in the parametric quake series of deals.
On the Atlantic side, hurricane Isaias is heading for a Gulf Coast landfall this weekend, with industry estimates suggesting a low to mid-single digit billion loss event is possible.
On the Pacific side, hurricane Simon is rapidly intensifying and brings Mexico's IBRD parametric cat bond back into focus.

In other stories this week, pension fund CalPERS wants to increase its allocations to the ILS asset class.
At our RVS roundtable event, ILS experts and leaders said they continue to see strong investor interest across the board, with appetite is deemed robust.
UCITS cat bond fund AUM kept rising in the third-quarter, to reach a new high of almost $21.8bn.
Catastrophe bond insurance risk spreads declined by 9.5% during the month of September 2026 as wind seasonality took hold.
Cat bond funds in the UCITS format have averaged a 6.67% return for 2026 up to September 15th.
TWIA forecast a potential reinsurance and cat bond need of $2.05bn for 2027, expecting to need to spend less on the coverage as well.
The ILS allocation of three Eaton Vance mutual funds rose to $777m, while in the last quarter the funds made an additional allocation to a Swiss Re strategy and a new investment in a Jaffa Capital fund.
